Joe Cocker
March 27, 1970
The Fillmore East
New York, NY
This week, we'll feature a performance by a man who earned the nickname "The Sheffield Shouter"...Joe Cocker.
In early 1970, just months after his breakout performance at Woodstock, Joe Cocker was informed by his management that he was to launch a tour that would start in just 8 days! It was a tour that he neither wanted, nor was physically ready for. But with signed contracts in place, he had no choice. Reluctantly, an exhausted Joe Cocker went to work. It was a tour that would feature nearly 30 players, spanning 48 cities in only 56 days. It would be known as the Mad Dogs and Englishmen Tour.
The brutal schedule took a serious toll on Joe's health. After completing the tour, he would be admitted to the hospital after suffering from extreme exhaustion. Despite everything, this tour would become one of the crown jewels of Joe's career. This week, we'll listen to the New York City show on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. It was recorded at The Fillmore East on March 27, 1970. It's an impressive set list. We'll feature these selections from the show:
1) She Came In Through the Bathroom Window
2) Feelin' Alright
3) The Letter
4) Something
5) The Weight
6) Let's Go Get Stoned
7) With a Little Help From My Friends
8) Honky Tonk Woman
We'll also feature performances by REO Speedwagon, Aerosmith, and Cheap Trick.
